McDonald's is committed to providing great quality food, cheapness and cleanliness, as well as quick and friendly service to their guests. Doing this requires, in today's complex environment, that the restaurants are relieved as much as possible of non-core logistics tasks. This enables them to focus more on restaurant operations and provide more service for their customers.
As part of this, goal HAVI Logistics had the idea of relieving the restaurants of any logistics activity.
The concept called "Unassisted Delivery" includes that the driver opens up the restaurant, does a quantity check for the products, puts the frozen and chilled goods into the respective warehouses, and finally locks the restaurant again. To do so, the respective HAVI Logistics company was committed the keys of the McDonald's restaurant.
"Invisible Delivery" means that the restaurant is totally free of any tasks to do with the delivery process. The distributor handles the entire physical delivery process including shelving (full put-away). In addition to the benefits of "Unassisted Delivery", the restaurant crew is relieved of tasks related to shelving and stock rotation.
"Unassisted" and "Invisible Delivery" postulates certain prerequisites.
One of them is
Ecosima (= Economic Store Inventory Management Assistance).Ecosima is a holistic approach to taking care of all main logistics processes within a McDonald's restaurant. All Ecosima modules have a positive impact on process performance. This will lead to smooth and efficient restaurant operations and also provide the basis for high product availability and satisfied guests. Ecosima is the tool to analyze and optimize the logistics process steps of a McDonald's restaurant in a structured way. Within this concept, all the individual pieces of the puzzle come together and build the complete picture of the logistics procedures in each individual restaurant.
It was of particular importance during the enhancement of Ecosima that this new service package was set up by a team of business experts from all related parties - McDonald’s management, McDonald’s restaurants and McDonald’s distributors. When all Ecosima modules are perfectly matched you get a perfect logistics “picture” of the McDonald’s restaurant.
1. Warehouse organization:- Fixed and labeled rack location
- Optimization of storage usage
- Storage of material items in a reasonable way (weight, size, groups)
2. Master data:- Up-to-date master data (bill of materials, material items and sales-articles)
- Inventory count list reflects the sequence of the stock count.
3. Stock management:
- Optimized method of stock taking
- Optimized range of inventory
- Optimized quality of the count results
4. Delivery:
- Optimized put away
- Right delivery frequency and days
5. Ordering:
- Minimized time spent on ordering
- Minimized rate of order modification
- Minimized store transfers
After successful implementation, the efficiency and quality of material management in the McDonald’s restaurants will be improved. This will reduce the time spent in the above-mentioned areas. Thus the restaurant management and the crew will be able to focus on operational excellence, sales building activities and, last but not least, on customer satisfaction. But also on the distributor side, Ecosima will lead to a number of benefits like, for example, fewer order modifications and optimized delivery frequencies.
Ecosima is neither a one-off job nor just a stand-alone service. It is a continuous optimization of the logistics processes in the restaurants and also the first step on the way for our existing and future services. Thus Ecosima is the cornerstone for prosperous restaurant management and for optimized “automatic ordering”.
Ecosima also improves order proposals due to more accurate stock counts and master data and is also - as already mentioned above - a prerequisite for implementing "Unassisted" and "Invisible Delivery".
